MAKEUP RESEARCH - CUTS & BRUISES
Mood Board
For reference, I decided to include two collages of actual injuries. These would give me a good idea of the natural colouration of the infliction, and also how the body would react. This would help me accurately emulate these injuries with makeup, with little risk of it looking fake. This would also help me evaluate and decide which techniques would be best to use
Cuts & Lesions
For the cuts, I decided to look at using red pigment such as lipstick or SFX paint. For the deeper cuts, I researched rigid collodion. This is used to produce the effect of deep cuts as when applied, it tightens the skin and produces an indent. This could then be filled in with dark red and brown creme pigment to recreate a deep cut. Red blushing could also be applied to the area with a fluffy blending brush to suggest irritation. To remove, liquid collodion can be peeled off like dry glue. There are also little to no risk factors, apart from it is not recommended to be used near the eyes.
Bruises
For bruises, lipstick and eyeshadow could be used. They would need to be applied slowly, and in purple and yellow tones to replicate a bruise. I also looked deeper towards the biology behind the special effects, and found that dog bites tend to bruise fairly soon after the injury takes place. This background knowledge will help me produce a realistic effect.
