Thriller Target Audience

Since crime and deviance is common within the thriller genre, it would be inappropriate to target the younger generation, therefore our film opening is most likely going to be rated 15 or even 18. Additionally, a lot of thriller films are intricate and thus too intellectually demanding for people below the teenage age range.

Our target audience will be young adults/older teenagers due to the fast-paced excitement we aim to create rather than the complexity of psychological thrillers, for example. We ave also decided for this group to be or main target audience because the majority of those aged 15 to 25 enjoy watching films from this genre.

Some believe that thriller films are aimed towards males due to the action and suspense which stereo-typically appeals to men. However, through using a female teenager as our protagonist, and an older male as the antagonist, we aim to appeal to females too since they may be able to relate more.

Examples

  • Insidious (2010) - Horror thriller suitable for mature teenagers to young adults due to the violence and gore
  • Taken (2008) - Action thriller appeals to younger audiences, especially boys, because of the suspenseful nature of the film
  • Cracks (2009) - Romantic thriller which is more likely to appeal to females
  • The Gift (2000) - Supernatural thriller appeals to younger audiences whom are most likely; to be female
